Discretisation Options - General

[Auto Discretise Options]  [Manual Discretise Options]

There are two main discretisation methods used in WITNESS Miner: auto and manual. The first stage in the discretisation wizard is to select which method will be used.

 

Auto discretisation

Given a required number of bins, the auto algorithms (equal-width, equal-frequency and an optimal algorithm) are used to generate a number of split points and assigned a discrete value to each bin.

 

Manual discretisation

Discretisation is performed using a supplied list of split points. Each bin is assigned a number similar to the auto methods. Manual discretisation is commonly used to apply splits to test data similar to that performed by auto methods on the training data.
